A nice man

As she said to me...he's a nice man and has had a tough time recently, having nursed his wife through her illness...they were just getting back on their feet when she passed unexpectedly.

He's struggling within his home, she said, and has confined himself to living in one room at the moment...so it seemed appropriate to offer him a break.  He's a nice man.

He talks a lot, she said...he rambles on and repeats himself.  Then, with conversation in full flow he'll stop and revert to silence, seemingly withdrawing rather like a tortoise into his shell.

He's not been taking care of himself.  His feet smelling strongly...and his breath too.  His clothes unwashed and his finger nails crusted.

He's clearly not used to eating regularly and prefers to have soup, which eases his digestive function.  Though to be honest you wouldn't notice, she said, for he farts a great deal...which upsets her cat.

He is used to his own company and as night runs into day without definition, he can be heard gargling in the early hours...after humming to himself at midnight and again at 3am.

The telly is a bone of contention, for she has only one...and he's partially deaf and follows the news on the hour, every hour, for an hour.

He carries a small bottle in his jacket pocket.  This concerned her a little, until she heard him relieving himself into it...obviously his bladder isn't behaving as a bladder efficiently should.

He's a nice man and said he enjoyed his stay, though politely told her with grateful thanks, that he wouldn't be coming again because he missed his own home, where he can simply do his own thing.

Bless him, she'll stay in touch...because he's a nice man : )
